The Missing Link to Becoming an Interior Designer
Tweet to @EDesignGrp
As you are researching online for Interior Design degrees, 'Top 5 Things You Need to Become a Designer' etc., and you are reading through many other articles, you are probably realizing by now that there is a lot of great content out there. Sorting through this information isn't an easy job. But there is one thing that is missing though. A very important piece of information on how to bridge the gap between this wonderful knowledge and starting a career in the ID field.
For many years I have worked on many successful projects - large and small, collaborated with tradepeople and developed ongoing relationships with clients. I am a strong supporter of this field and believe it can be as big or small as you want it to be. However, I saw a common denominator here and I wanted to do something about it.
When I realized the missing link I started helping others launch themselves into the business of Interior Design through internships and assistantships. All my interns own a design firm now or they work for a firm. When I see them, they bring up the fact that the practical knowledge is not taught in school and this is key for aspiring designers.
Mentoring others into the profession of Interior Design is very gratifying. Opening the door to someone else is a gift and helping others start their ID business is rewarding and that's why I'm still doing this.
Many aspiring designers lack the day-to-day practices of managing a design project. It comes with experience, internships and most of all having a mentor. Not everyone has a mentor or can afford following an experienced designer around to clients or visiting sights.
Drawing this conclusion led me to launch Better by Design Academy. The online courses can be accessed on demand. The programs are divided into modules that simplify the ID business, explain the steps and provide tips and ideas.
Through new blog articles, workshops, online videos and social postings familiarize yourself with the online mentoring resources offered by BBD Academy. It will help bridge the gap between the textbook knowledge and the practical knowledge.
Good luck :)
